Seven years ago she was bedridden because of a chronic condition which causes constant pain and muscle weakness.
But Rebecca Wass, 33, general manager of Cromer Pier, has fought back and is halfway through 14 sports challenges to be completed this year.
Miss Wass, from Gertrude Road, Norwich, who has fibromyalgia, is taking part in the tough events to raise money for the MS Society and Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre in Norwich.
Her late grandmother Elizabeth Bubb was diagnosed with MS, aged 33, and Mrs Bubb’s son Derik was diagnosed with progressive MS when he was 32 and died seven years later.
Miss Wass, who decided to attempt the challenge after a health scare last year, said: “Something clicked. I was turning 33 and I realised this was when my nanny was diagnosed. The best thing about the challenge has been I have met so many people with MS.
“So many people know someone with MS and it does affect millions of people but it is something we don’t tend to talk about.”
Her first challenge was a 10k run at Easton College in February, which she completed in one hour six minutes.
“I had six weeks to go from a non-runner to a runner,” Miss Wass said.
Since then she has completed a firewalk, abseil and the Norwich 100-mile bike ride. Her most recent challenge was a 12,000ft tandem skydive on Saturday.
Remaining events include the Birmingham half marathon and a 12-hour cycle, climb and kayak up and over Mount Snowdon.
Her final challenge will be a 60k walk/run from her home to Cromer Pier.
Miss Wass added: “I have never cried so much in all my life. I set myself up for these things but never thought I could do them. Because I have managed to keep physically fit I have kept my fibromyalgia symptoms at bay. I feel the healthiest I have ever felt.”
Fibromyalgia causes pain, tiredness and lowers the immune system.
Miss Wass has so far raised £1,876.50.
