The Archdeacon of Lynn will be forever indebted to the East Anglian Air Ambulance for saving his wife's life.

So he was delighted, today, when around 180 people joined him on his annual fund-raising run for the charity.

The Archdeacon's Charge was held for the fifth time at the Stody Estate, near Melton Constable.

The Charge is a sponsored walk or run anywhere from three to 10 miles to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the local church of each participant.

The Archdeacon of Lynn, the Venerable John Ashe, ran the full 10 miles while his wife Shelagh and daughter Jo, 31, walked part of the course.

The Charge is held at a different venue each year.

Mr Ashe said: 'We try to run it somewhere which is not usually open to the public and that attracts a lot of runners.

'It's wonderful to have it here this year, where runners can admire some absolutely stunning water gardens and we are very grateful to Adel MacNicol for allowing us to hold it here and to carry on raising money for the air ambulance and local churches.'

The Archdeacon's Charge has raised nearly £58,000 since it started, which is enough to keep the air ambulance flying for two days and to pay for half a priest for one year.

It is not yet known how much was raised today.
