It’s the latest internet craze that has taken the world by storm and has got celebrities such as actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise and the First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond chucking buckets of ice water over their heads for charity.

The fundraising challenge started in the United States to raise money for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) (known as motor neurone disease in the UK), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

So far £48 million has so far been raised for the ALS Association and the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Norfolk has taken the challenge full on, and our photo gallery shows the famous faces who have tipped the ice cold water over their heads and the people of Norfolk and their efforts for charity.

  • This explains why there’s over 10 min wait to get first on the phones lines, why they buses that don’t turn up or are late and it takes 2 months to get a response to a complaint. There management is to busy helping other people other then there own customers.

  • Really 21.....let ya hair down a bit and let people enjoy. The 'slight' shock you get is what the fund raising is all about. If a person feels they couldnt cope with a bit of cold water....then don't feel forced to do it......simples.

  • Amazing since nthe FIRST managers came clean, the service improved for at least 12 hrs. 21, have you had your muesli today? There's nothing dangerous unless its a metal bucket and it accidentally falls on someone's head. Have you ever heard of the resilience of icewater swimmers?

  • $48 million raised for the ALSA, but, according to their published financial data, they only put 7% towards research, so there's an awful lot of residual money going somewhere!
