Hairy biker Philip Walden has not had his Barnet cropped for more than 40 years.

But now he is feeling the cold on his freshly-shaved head and chin after a charity stunt to support his wife Debbie, who has breast cancer.

Mr Walden, from Sutton near Stalham, will feel the wind in his ears while riding his motorbike after the close shave at Roadkill Customs at Cromer on Sunday.

The stunt was part of a fundraising event for the Big C charity - organised by Mr Walden and his wife Debbie as a thankyou to those who have been caring for her.

Mr Walden, 59, said he had not had short hair since he was “about 15”.

He added: “Debbie’s got breast cancer and the hospital has been so brilliant that we decided to get some fundraising going.

“I was only going to have the hair shaved off and my so-called friends started putting an extra fiver in if I had the beard off as well.

“I’m not speaking to some of them now. And I’ve bought myself a balaclava to guard against the cold.”

The couple are members of the Norfolk-based Lost Knights Motorcycle Club.

Mrs Walden said: “I’ve known about the breast cancer for 12 weeks. I’ve had two lots of chemotherapy. It’s been tough, but I’ve got a lovely family. Philip’s my rock.”

After the event, the couple had raised more than £3,000 for the Big C - including £1,600 in advance, thanks in part to her friends Diane Perchard and Yvonne De’ath, who also had their heads shaved.

Mr and Mrs Walden thanks Rachael and Roo for helping to organise Sunday’s event and Julie Gilbey for the head and beard shave.
