A town school was invaded by a fleet of vehicles today from vintage cars and a small steam engine called Sybil to a Scooby Doo mystery machine.

The special event at Stalham high was put on for the long-running year 11 leavers’ day, which saw more than 90 teenagers arriving in style to mark their final day at the school.

They were watched by crowds of younger pupils and proud parents and teachers who cheered at the impressive vehicles and glamorous outfits.

Gerard Batty, executive headteacher of the school, said: “It is a lovely way for the students to end their year. They have really earned it after knuckling down in difficult circumstances. I have never seen anything like this before, it is nice for the community.”

The high school is fighting back after it fell into special measures in February this year, following a snap Ofsted inspection on November 26-27.

Mr Batty became executive headteacher after Ofsted rated the school inadequate.

The transport featured a variety of vintage and modern cars including a Triumph, Mercedes, Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Porsche, Aston Martin DB9 and stretch limousines.

Quirkier vehicles were a push bike, New Holland Tractor, Kenworth 77 truck and hovercraft from Sea Palling.

Kay Brownsword, teaching assistant, said: “The looked absolutely stunning. It is nice to see them not as pupils but as young adults. The vehicles were fantastic.”
