WITH snow continuing to fall across Lowestoft, people across Suffolk are preparing for heavier snowfall this evening.

Forecasters have predicted the heaviest flurries to hit Suffolk late this afternoon, and these are likely to last until about 10pm.

Light snow started falling about 3.10pm today, and with chilly winds hitting the east coast the sleet and snowfall had soon become heavier in Lowestoft. By 5pm, many roads and icy paths were covered by the white stuff once more.

And with the temperatures dropping a police spokesman urged all motorists to “take extra care on the roads.”

The Met Office predicted that about 4in of snow was likely to fall in Suffolk, as the yellow “be aware” warning of ice remains in place today and tomorrow (Monday).

With wind speeds predicted to hit highs of about 26mph tonight in Lowestoft, the forecasters also suggested there would be “very poor visibility.”

With all bin collections cancelled in Waveney last Friday, a district council spokesman said that the teams were “keeping a close eye” on the forecast ahead of collections tomorrow (Monday).

The spokesman said: “If your round was cancelled last week, put your bin out for the morning.”
