You might think properties with no upper storey are resigned for your grandparents- but take a look at this modern home where the only stairs are steps down into the most fabulous open plan dining/seating and kitchen area! Regional property editor Caroline Culot visited Siennabelles in Taverham.

I remember visiting my grandparents who lived in a prefabricated bungalow complete with big patterned carpets and a kitchen which hadn’t been touched since the1930s. But bungalows are back...developers are telling me there is an increasing demand for single storey living and not only for older people who perhaps don’t want or can’t tackle stairs - but families and professionals too. What such residences offer is much more flexibility in accommodation with rooms flowing from one to another and lower maintenance.

Take a look at this stunning example of a modern take on a bungalow - the only steps actually take you down to a wonderful open plan living/dining/kitchen area with bifold doors opening onto a private garden which boasts a bar complete with LED lights so you can keep enjoying a late night tipple in to the twilight hours.

This property was designed and built by its owner in 2009. It is situated at the end of a private road and you enter into a lobby, off which is a gorgeous master bedroom with doors which open to a private patio area and which has its own en suite wet room. There is a family bathroom and three further bedrooms and then steps take you down to the open plan area which has a travertine tiled floor and underfloor heating. When I visited, it was a really hot day and all the bifold doors were open so you really end up with a space that feels as if you are outdoors. The kitchen boasts all the latest gadgets with work surfaces and splash backs in quartz and there is a sitting room area with a contemporary slate fireplace and an integrated home cinema surround sound system with inset speakers.

At night, the property looks equally stunning with LED lights inside and out. This house also comes with a gym, a wine cellar and a double garage as well as energy efficient features in the form of an air source heat pump. And not a big patterned carpet in sight!

Siennabelles, Scotch Hill Road, Taverham, is for sale for a guide price of £500,000-£550,000 with Abbotts on 01603 605641.
