More than 1,500 competitors ran, jumped, swung and threw at the UEA Sportspark yesterday, with 26 teams fighting for victory.

The varied line-up, ranging from as young as seven to as old as 80, represented 39 villages from across the county.

Awards were split into three size categories, with The Forncetts topping the small village category, Long Stratton taking the medium, and Hethersett and the Meltons triumphing in the large.

The fair play award was given to Downham Market.

It was a competition of firsts, with Hainford and Stratton Strawless picking up the Broadland’s first Village Games medal and Fakenham doing the same for north Norfolk.

Ellen Valint, sports development officer for Active Norfolk, said: “It was a fantastic day, the weather held and we had the closest competition yet. Well done to all the teams involved and all of the volunteers were fantastic.

“It was a great day all round and we look forward to more Village Games competitions in 2015.”
