Students across Lowestoft have been receiving their GCSE results today with scenes of celebrations, and some of disappointment, at the town’s high schools.

At Benjamin Britten High School eagerly queued up at 10.30am to get their exams.

While there were scenes of happiness as envelopes were opened and individual students got excellent results, the school saw 36pc of students gain five A*-C grades, including English and maths, a fall of 10pc compared to last year.

The percentage rate for five A*-C in all subjects was 52pc.

Jacob Archbold gained A*s in maths, additional and core Science, religious Studies and A’s English literature, drama, history, French, further additional science and statistics, while Olivia Seago received A*s in English language, maths, English literature, history, religious studies, French, science and media

and A’s in ICT and statistics.

At East Point Academy there were more success stories, with Kim Harvey gaining seven A* or A grades in English, maths,science and physical education. Other students who did well were Victoria Azizi, Jack Bergin and Amy Webb who achieved nine A to B grades in a wide range of subjects.

The percentage of students achieving five or more A*-C in English and maths was 33pc.

Ormiston Denes Academy had a 29pc rate for five A*-C in maths and English, resulting in disappointment among school leaders.
