A Norfolk police spokesman said the lorry ended up on its side, near the B1454 junction, but the driver was uninjured.

A local farmer attended to check on the chickens’ welfare following the crash at just after 6pm yesterday.

The road was blocked between 10pm and 1am while the Highways Agency attended to help clear up the debris and the white Scania lorry was being recovered.

The police said no other vehicles were involved in the accident but could not say how many, if any, chickens had died.
