Friends Sandy Camp and Kelly Parker took a gamble and hired Holton Village Hall, near Halesworth, once a month to hold a traditional tea dance.

Despite concern about how the idea would be received, the launch on Saturday attracted a wide range of people all keen to show off their skills.

Mrs Camp said: “We are so chuffed, what an atmosphere, it was absolutely lovely. We had about 35 people, which for the first one we thought was excellent. We had one teenager with her mum and the rest were about 40 plus, so there was a nice mix. We couldn’t have wished for it to go better.”

The music was provided by seasoned tea dancer Mary Lawrence, while Mrs Camp made victoria sponge cakes and scones to be served with pots of tea during the interval.

The spring tea dance is at Holton Village Hall on Saturday, March 2, from 2pm. Tickets are £5 in advance from Edwards Restaurant in Halesworth or £6 on the door.
