Many visitor attractions around the region were reporting higher than average visitor numbers for this weekend, and for last weekend too.

The shops, junior farm and other attractions at Wroxham Barns proved a popular draw, with director Ian Russell saying local people were getting out and about, while visitors were also coming to the area for weekend breaks.

He said: “Over the last fortnight we have done double the amount of business we did over the same period last year.

“It certainly augers well for Easter.

“The weather is a lot to do with it but I think people are genuinely wanted to get out and enjoy themselves. They are being careful with their money, but they are able to do it.”

Sheringham park saw hundreds of families arrive to enjoy a walk in the grounds stretching out across parkland, woodlands and cliff top.

Volunteer Pat Rudrum said the car park was full. She said: “We are very busy because it is warmer than usual – last year’s weather was awful at this time.

“A lot of people come here look at the flowers and walk their dogs.”

Nick Dickson, manager at Brandon Country Park, said visitor numbers had increased dramatically after a slow start as people ventured out to make the most of the park’s setting in Thetford Forest.

“We were scratching our heads when we first opened at half 10 because it was quiet, but clearly people have stuck their head out the window and seen that it’s a lovely day.

“Now it’s absolutely heaving, our car park is full and it’s buzzing. Spring is in the air,” he said.

Debbie Rizborough, of Norfolk Broads Direct and Broads Tours, said it had been a busy Sunday in Wroxham. She added that it boded well for the start of the holiday season.

“We have had a really good day. It is still very early in the season, but with the warmer weather coming earlier it gets people in the mood to go out and about. It is nice to see a lot of families having ice creams and day boat hire has been nice and steady.
