In the latest crash, a caravan flipped over on the Great Yarmouth-bound carriageway of the A47, near to the showground, between the junctions with the A1074 at Costessey and the B1108 at Colney.

The crash happened at 7.35pm, causing huge tailbacks for the thousands leaving the Norfolk Show.

Fire crews worked to help right the vehicle, which had blocked the road.

Norfolk Constabulary’s officers put diversions in place and had to turn vehicles around and send them back down the carriageway. Police said no one was injured in the crash.

The road was partially reopened after about two hours, and police said debris had to be cleared from the scene before it could be fully reopened.

Police also confirmed that a five-year-old boy was hit by a car just before 5pm in Vancouver Avenue in King’s Lynn, near to the Southgates roundabout.

The boy was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn to be treated for a suspected fractured wrist. The road was closed but reopened at about 6.10pm.

There were also delays at Ditchingham, following a crash involving a Ford Transit van and a Renault Laguna at 4.20pm, in which one casualty was cut out of a car and taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The A143 was shut in both directions between Chicken roundabout and the B1332 Norwich Road, but it was cleared by 6.45pm.

Meanwhile, a car fire at 5.17pm near to the Norfolk Showground also exacerbated the traffic hold-ups, with thousands of people trying to leave the Norfolk Show.
