King’s Lynn came alive with music and song for the second night when The Brand New Heavies headlined Festival Too.
Thousands of people attended the free concert in the Tuesday Market Place last night (Saturday) and the rain stayed away until the soul group’s encore.
The usual party atmosphere prevailed, with people of all ages dancing and singing along, but wet weather throughout the day resulted in a smaller crowd than expected.
“It was, as always, a brilliant night,” said committee member Alan Taylor. “Unfortunately, we were about 30pc down on numbers and I think people were put off by the bad weather.
“There was a black cloud over the market place and we were brushing water off the stage all day. The weather is the one thing we can’t control and the one thing that keeps people away.
“All our hard core festival fans were there and I met one couple who came up from Bath. It just goes to show that people not only know about Festival Too, they are prepared to travel here.”
The Brand New Heavies got a warm welcome and played all their classic hits including Dream on Dreamer and Midnight at the Oasis.
There were also performances from Norfolk acts Jessie’s Ghost, singer-songwriter Kenza and folk group Jake Morrell.
Headlining Saturday’s grand finale will be X Factor favourite Marcus Collins, soul sensation Lemar and singer-songwriter Ryan O’Shaughnessy, who found fame on Britain’s Got Talent earlier in the year.
Festival-goers will be able to see a Jessie J tribute act, Soul II Soul and punk, ska and reggae The Selecter on Friday.
