Brandon remembrance parade

A two minute silence was held this morning, followed by a parade this afternoon as the people of Brandon paid respect on Remembrance Sunday.

The procession began at Brandon Leisure Centre and followed the road to the war memorial in St Peter’s Church cemetery at which wreathes were laid.

This was followed by a service at the church.

Parade commander and Brandon town councillor, Geoff Hughes, who served with the Royal Signals in Borneo and Belfast, said it was a day to remember old comrades.

“As a veteran there are people I was in the army with who aren’t here any more,” he said.

“They’re not on your mind constantly, but they come up every now and then in your thoughts.”

He added that the two minute silence this morning (Sunday) had been “respectful”.
