It was party time in King’s Lynn last night (Friday) when the sun finally came out – just in time for Festival Too.

After a day of dismal weather, thousands of people headed into town for the free festival, thought to be the largest of its kind in Europe.

Female vocalist Sophie and the Coots did a fantastic job of warming up the crowd before headliners the Pigeon Detectives stepped on stage at about 10pm.

The band, originally from Leeds, soon got the Tuesday Market Place jumping with hits such as I Found Out going down a storm.

“It was an amazing night, the atmosphere was electric,” said Festival Too committee member Alan Taylor. “Everyone seemed to be having a great time and we would like to thank everyone who came along.

“We thought the bad weather would diminish numbers, so it was wonderful to see so many people turn out and support us.”

Tonight’s concert, starting at 6.30pm, will be headlined by jazz funk pioneers the Brand New Heavies, best-known for their chart hits Back to Love, Dream on Dreamer and Midnight at the Oasis.

Also performing will be Norfolk acts Jessie’s Ghost, singer-songwriter Kenza and folk group Jake Morrell.

“I hope King’s Lynn is ready for another fantastic night of free entertainment,” Mr Taylor added. “We can’t wait to do it all again.”

There will also be street entertainment in King’s Lynn town centre all day today (Saturday), including Raz the clown and a Punch and Judy show.

Performing in next weekend’s grand finale will be X Factor favourite Marcus Collins, soul sensation Lemar and singer-songwriter Ryan O’Shaughnessy, who found fame on Britain’s Got Talent earlier in the year.
