Thousands of racegoers have been urged to support victims of the Fakenham fire through the EDP’s Let’s Fight for Fakenham campaign.

Fakenham Racecourse helped to promote our appeal at ladies’ day on Sunday.

The fourth race was named The EDP Fakenham Fire Appeal Fund Novices’ Hanicap Hurdle Race.

Fakenham Racecourse chief executive David Hunter and North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) leader Tom FitzPatrick urged people to support the campaign and thanked Fakenham firefighters, who were given a free day’s racing, for their bravery.

Mr FitzPatrick, who presented a prize to winning jockey James Banks, said: “The appeal is great because even where people are insured there is a shock factor and they need immediate support. It can be the difference between a small business surviving and not surviving at a time like this.”

Fakenham Racecourse has donated £500 to the campaign and, yesterday, bookmakers added £250.

To donate, make cheques payable to the Norfolk Community Foundation and take it to your nearest EDP office or send it to: The NCF, St James Mill, Whitefriars, Norwich, NR3 1SH.
