College of West Anglia group climb mobile wall 40 times each at Norfolk campus

Students at a King’s Lynn college had a bit of an up and down day when they raised money with a charity event.

The teenagers were, in fact, up and down a mobile climbing wall around 40 times each to equal the height of the Three Peaks Challenge at 3,144m.

The pre-uniformed services group, aged between 14 and 16, spent the morning climbing the 8m mobile wall at the Tennyson Avenue college and they hope to raise hundreds of pounds through their efforts.

Course director Pat Kavanagh said the challenge was something many of the dozen taking part had never experienced before - but it did not present too many problems.

“All of them did really well. They raced up it like Billy goats, although they were tired after lunch and I suspect they will be feeling it a bit,” he said.

The group, who are pupils at Lynn’s Academy, King Edward VII school, Marshland High and Hamonds High schools are taking a rest over half-term before resuming their fund raising.

“The next part of the challenge is a 28-mile run which we will break down into chunks and they will start that immediately they return after the break,” said Mr Kavanagh.

The students are raising money for a number of charities: Cancer Research, British Heart Foundation, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, the RSPCA and Help for Heroes.

“They all have a personal connection with the charities they have chosen and hope to raise £500,” said Mr Kavanagh.

The students who took part were: Callum Bartlett, Kewin Bendus, Kayleigh Bolt, Shaun Chalmers, Sylvester Coleman, Charlotte Davies, Ashlee-Jay Dowd, Amy Doy, Thomas Izzard, Dylan Pottle, Kevin Scott, Adin Sieley, Will Smith and Daniel Stockwell.
