Hundreds of brides and bridegrooms-to-be flocked to a city landmark today to be inspired ahead of their special day.

The Assembly House’s elegant rooms were filled with displays by dressmakers, photographers, caterers, chauffeurs and entertainers as part of the EDP Wedding Show.

Future brides travelled from across the region to discuss themes and ideas for their big day with the 50 exhibitors on the day.

It was the third time the event, which attracted some 700 prospective brides, has been held in the historic venue in Theatre Street and marked the EDP’s fifth wedding show so far this year.

Bank manager Kath Chappel, 24, who is originally from Norwich but now lives in Essex and is due to marry Adam Claxton in July next year, said: “I’ve come to get some general ideas, particularly for flowers and evening entertainment. We moved to Essex for work four years ago but we are both from Norwich so we wanted to come back home to get married.”

Lucy Edwards, 24, who lives in Dereham Road, Norwich, and plans to marry Ricky Carr in 2014, said the show had been an “eye opener”.

She said: “I hadn’t come with any expectations and it’s nice to have a variety of different things going on.

“There have been some surprises from the norm including a magician. It’s been really good.”

Exhibitors on the day included Flower Moments, Lightening Photography, Toastmaster Bob Lloyd, Cakes by Dita Lee, Winsor Bishop, Imagine Spa and Vanilla Patisserie.

For some of the exhibitors, including Norfolk Candy Buffet and Serenity Charter, it was the first time they had attended the EDP Wedding Show.

Visitors also had the chance to enter a prize draw to win a dinner for four in the Assembly House restaurant.

Diana Sims, from the EDP Wedding Show team, said: “We’ve had future brides come from all over East Anglia for our third show at the Assembly House. This is our fifth show this year and we are still getting a superb attendance.

“The exhibitors have been very happy and we’ve been happy with the turn out. It’s an intimate venue which means the brides-to-be can take their time and really talk the exhibitors.”
