Spiderman, Superman and the village vicar all took the plunge for charity when they abseiled down Necton church tower.

They were among 60 brave people aged from six to 79 who helped raise more than 4,500 that will be divided between the church and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Rev Stephen Thorp was the first to descend at 10.30am on Saturday October 6, with spectators gathered at the base of the tower maintaining their support until the last abseiler took their turn at 6pm.

Organisers said there was a real buzz around the church throughout the day, and each abseil was a great feat for the individual, especially those who overcame a fear of heights.
