Hundreds of scouts paraded through Fakenham as they renewed their promises on what is the “single most important day” of the scouting calendar.

About 250 members of the Central Norfolk District Scouts, which is made up of scouts from Holkham to Melton Constable, Fakenham to Dereham and Mattishall, took part in today’s St George’s Day parade.

The salute was taken by the mayor of Fakenham, Adrian Vertigan, who was assisted by Sheila Goldsmith and David Webster, who have 100 years of service to scouting between them.

A service was then held at Fakenham Parish Church, led by Rev Adrian Bell.

As part of the service, adult members were recognised for long service and for completion of training.

Richard Green, district commissioner for the Central Norfolk District Scouts, said: “It’s been an excellent day and we’ve had a good response. This is the single most important day in our calendar.”

The Central Norfolk District Scouts is calling out for more six to eight-year-olds to join Beavers, eight to 10-and-a-half-year-olds to join the Cubs and adults to get involved as leaders or supporters.
