More than 80 bikers took part in a charity run for the Mayor of West Norfolk's Appeal.

They collected a car-load of food, which will be made up into Christmas hampers for elderly people in and around King's Lynn.

Richard Pike, one of the organisers, said: 'We had 82 bikes, which is a bit down on last year, but the weather porobably put a few people off.

'On the run itself, it was nice and sunny, so everybody had a good time.'

Mr Pike said the ride began on the Willows Industrial Estate at Saddlebow, on the outskirts of Lynn, before heading across the Fens to St Germans, Magdalen, Terrington St John, and along the A17 to Sutton Bridge, where it did a U-turn after crossing the swing bridge across the Nene.

Then it continued along the old A17 via Walpole Cross Keys and Clenchwarton, skirting West Lynn before entering Lynn via the Cut Bridge and London Road.

The ride ended with a cup of tea at Lynn Town Hall, with West Norfolk Mayor Geoffrey Wareham.

'I'd like to say a big thank-you to everyone who turned up,' said Mr Pike.

'With special thanks to all the marshalls, who did a very special job.'

The event – organised by Mr Pike, who now lives in Spalding, and fellow bikers Stuart Coote, from Hunstanton, and Simon Boughen, from Dersingham – began in 1994.

It grew out of the British Motorcyclists Federation, and saw the formation of Mayor's Appeal Run MCC.

'We only meeet up a couple of times a year,' said Mr Pike. 'It's made up of people from all over the place – Wisbech, Thrapston, we've got several from Peterborough.'

In 2011, 165 bikes turned out for the ride. In previous years, the event has attracted 200 or more bikers to take part, with the record standing at some 270 entrants.
