Wartime music filled a Thetford town centre street today for a GI day as part of the town's two week festival programme.

The town celebrated its second world war American connections with re-enactors dressed in 1940s gear and dancing from tunes from the wartime era outside the Dad's Army Museum.

The event, which was funded by Norfolk's American Connections project, was part of the Thetford Festival celebrations.

Organiser Corinne Fulford said the attendance for the town's third annual festival had been 'very good', with visitors coming from across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Dozens of children also took part in an Art Attack event at the Charles Burrell Museum today where they turned household recyclables into pieces of art work. A photographic exhibition also opened in the Guildhall, which will run until Friday.

The festival will conclude with a comedy club on Friday night in the Carnegie Rooms, and A Big Day Out at Kings House Gardens on Saturday, which will be opened by MP Elizabeth Truss and Peter Bance at midday.
