People in a seaside town have been encouraged to pull together to get into the carnival spirit this summer.

Later this month Cromer will host the Carnival Tug of War competition, where teams will battle it out to win the title of champion.

The traditional competition has been revived in recent years, and organisations and groups from across the area are being urged to take part.

Battle will commence on Sunday July 20 at 1pm, and entrants with teams of eight people can register on the day.

Carnival chairman, Tony Shipp said: 'We have already had a lot of interest from local pubs and businesses and are looking forward to seeing the teams battle it out on the day.'

The competition will take place on Cromer's east beach at the bottom of The Gangway.

The carnival is looking for new volunteers, young or old, and people who have an hour or two to spare and want to join in and help with the event.

A helpers' night is being organised at The Cottage in Cromer on July 16 at 7.30pm.

Volunteers are needed to help with events in August from bucket collecting to manning the gates and helping with the parade.

This year the carnival, now in its 45th year, will run from August 16 to 22 with its Grand Carnival Day on Wednesday August 20 featuring the welcome return of the Red Arrows, and Bolddog Lings FMX Team.

Carnival chairman Tony Shipp encouraged people to get involved in their local community.

He said: 'Helpers' Night is an important part of the run-up to Cromer Carnival.

'It's a great chance for anyone thinking about helping to find out what is involved and how big or small a commitment they would like to make. The success of Cromer Carnival is down to its volunteers.'

He said: 'It also gives those already signed up to help the chance to meet up with those committee members responsible for the event, or activity, they are helping with and get in the carnival spirit.'

The carnival is run entirely by volunteers who give thousands of hours across the year.
