A teenager’s karting passion led to his parents buying the local go-karting track in north Norfolk.

Jack Tritton, who will be 19 on Monday, October 2, caught the racing bug at Karttrak, in Northrepps, near Cromer, in 2012 while at a friend’s birthday.

And Jack and his family, from Aylsham Road, North Walsham, have now bought Karttrak from previous owner Robert Marshall.

He said: “We took it over last week - me, my mum Kate Tritton, dad Darren Tritton, and sister Danielle Tritton.”

His mum said: “Jack’s been passionate about karting since he started. Hid dad used to race, and he always wanted to run a go-kart track.”

Jack spent two years on a driver’s and sport education course at Loughborough College and is now riding Formula 1 sidecars.

He only got his national licence to compete in June 2017 and is the youngest passenger in the sidecar paddock.

He said: “This year I won at Bemsee, the F1 sidecar championships, with one round left to go.

“I’ve got one more race left at Whilton Mill in Northamptonshire. Next year I plan to do the full British series but it will come down to funds. I’ve got a couple of sponsors.”

He added: “I did less karting in 2016 but won a club championship in Red Lodge.

“This year I also took part in the British Superbikes Championships as a wildcard for three events. All three I got on the podium, We were third at Snetterton, second at Brands Hatch and third at Cadwell, in Lincolnshire.”

He has been racing alongside Tim and Tristan Reeves, who are ex-world champions and current British champions, and Ben and Tom Birchall, who are current world champions.

Two years ago the EDP reported that the teenage karting star was celebrating a flurry of successes as his season reached its climax.

Then a North Walsham High School student, he had chalked up his first podium finish of the Formula Kart Stars campaign - whose old boys included F1 ace Lewis Hamilton.
