Jamie Kelly died after his car was in collision with another vehicle in North Lopham while he was on his way home from work, where he had just been promoted.

The 23-year-old had been meeting his new team at Midwich, a technology firm in Diss, where he had been working for eight months before he died.

His father Rod Kelly said: 'Jamie had great social skills and was very caring and he worked very hard.

'He also had quite a sensitive side but was larger than life, being 6ft 2in and with blonde hair, so he didn't show it too often.

'He also had a great sense of humour and it was a real tragedy that he was promoted but didn't have the chance to work in the new role.'

Jamie was born in the family home in East Harling and lived there his entire life, aside from a few years studying geography at Hull University.

He spent his summers working at Center Parcs at Elveden Forest where he trained as a lifeguard and even saved a toddler from drowning.

'He was only just starting to find his feet,' said Jamie's mother, Sheila MacDonald.

'He spent some time finding himself before wanting to start a career and then he joined Midwich and loved it.

'Of all the people they took on, his colleague Tom said he hadn't seen anyone take to the job so easily.'

Much of Jamie's family live in Scotland and were prevented from attending the funeral by the snow storms in March.

His elder brother, Angus, was able to attend.

His colleagues from his days as a labourer cleared the path to the church so those who did make it could pay their respects.

Mrs McDonald added: 'I was very overwhelmed by the people who managed to come to say goodbye - Jamie obviously left his mark.

'It's nice to hear these things about your son and we are very proud of him.'

An inquest into Jamie's death opened at Norfolk Coroner's Court and was adjourned until September 13.
