It may not be Shrove Tuesday yet but 20 people in Beccles had a flipping good time on Saturday as they took part in Pancake Day races to help send a guides group from the town to a high profile jamboree.
Between 10am and 1pm Roys department store organised a series of pancake races in its quadrangle in support of the 1st Beccles Guides.
About 20 people, including guides and store staff, took part in time trial races as they avoided slippery conditions while their eyes were firmly focussed on their frying pans and pancakes as they tried to win Roys vouchers for finishing the fastest.
About £160 was raised from the races.
The money raised will help send the 1st Beccles Guides to the Norfolk Jamboree at the Norfolk Showground in August, which will be attended by about 4,000 guides and scouts.
Each guide in the Beccles group needs to raise £300 to allow them to attend August’s gathering.
Sherry Breeze, assistant manager at Roys, said: “It was a bit wet and slippery for those taking part. There was the odd time penalty and dropped pancake.”
