Almost £2,000 was raised when music fans gathered in the centre of Norwich for a live event for Oxfam.

All over the country Oxjam music nights were held to raise money for the charity which fights poverty.

It was the second time the event had been held in Norwich, with last year’s inaugural event raising £1,700.

This time 20 acts played at Karma Kafe, in Bedford Street, last month, as £1,930 was raised.

Organiser Claire Andrews said: “It was amazing to see so many people willing to help out such a great cause.

“It was really humbling all the support I received from local people.”

Among the artists performing on the night were Dumbfoundus, Solko, Cielo, Chasing Tigers, Tom Pearce and Slightly Offensive Steve.

Claire said: “Mikill Pane came from his UK tour with Ed Sheeran and was only too pleased to help out the cause and delivered a very well received set on the night.

“He was pleased to be part of something where people still give to charity and come together in the love of music.”

She added: “We were sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements and had lots of help from the sounds technicians at Access to music.

“Karma Kafe and Danny Banthorpe were very accommodating and the three floors we had music over worked really well.”

An EP has also been released on iTunes to help raise more funds. Oxjam Norwich – Instant Karma showcases 10 of the bands which performed on the evening.

Organisers also held a Buskathon in September to raise money and awareness ahead of the event.

Initially set up in 2006, the national Oxjam events have raised more than £1.5m for Oxfam’s work in fighting poverty.
