The incredible generosity of EDP readers is already helping those hit by Fakenham’s biggest fire in living memory get their lives back on track.

The first three applications for funds from our Let’s Fight for Fakenham appeal have been approved.

They came from tenants living in the flats devastated by the blaze of May 25. Each will receive £1,000.

One of those is Chris Ling, 34, who moved into a new home in Fakenham a week ago.

He will use the funds to buy a washing machine, fridge freezer, furniture and clothing.

Mr Ling said: “I lost everything so this will help me so much.”

He added: “Aldiss and Morrisons have been very generous, giving me essentials like kitchen equipment and bedding, North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) lent me money to sort out my

new home, the people at work gave me a place to stay and food when I needed it and friends and family have been very supportive.

“I’ve been amazed by people’s generosity.”

Meanwhile, Tesco in Fakenham has promised to donate £2,000 to our campaign, meaning more than £15,500 will have been raised.

To apply for funding go to or pick up an application form from Fakenham Connect on Oak Street.

  • Well done Tesco for giving £2000 that's almost as much as Aldiss have given and they own the building!
