Nine children with hearing impairments took part in a range of different sports in Norwich at the weekend.
Deaftastics Multi Sports Club seeks to promote increased opportunities in sport for hearing impaired children who live in Norfolk.
The seven to 18-year-olds participated in games of hockey, football and basketball at the Sportspark in Norwich on Sunday. The nine children will also be taking part in the Sport Relief mile in Norwich at the weekend.
Officials from the sports club said hearing impaired children found it difficult to join in mainstream sports. However, a sign language interpreter is present at Deaftastics events to ensure there are no communication issues.
Last year, the sports club received £1,000 grant from Sports Relief.
Judi Bence, of Poringland, who is secretary of the Deaftastics Multi Sports Club, said the multi sport event at the weekend was a big success.
'With the help of the Sports Relief grant, we organised some exciting local activities such as motocross, go karting and a visit to the Hilltop Outdoor Centre for an adventure day.'
'The hearing impaired children benefit considerably from these regular organised events. They are able to participate in all kinds of sports on an equal footing. The atmosphere is always relaxed as there are no communication issues and they forge friendships with their peers.'
'It is possible, within a very short space of time, to see the boost in confidence and self esteem that being involved in Deaftastics has on a hearing impaired child,' she said.
