Alastair Murison is Mrs Clarkeson’s favourite musician and so Worstead Day Care Centre chiefs booked him to play favourite old standards at a party they threw to celebrate her big day.

Mrs Clarkeson has been attending the centre for the past two years and is their first centenarian.

Born in Cambridge, Mrs Clarkeson moved to Norfolk 10 years ago, living first in Dereham and now Waterfield Meadows, North Walsham.

As a young woman she wanted to be a secretary and, after disliking a job involving figures, she bought a typewriter and taught herself to type so that she could get work in her chosen field.

Mrs Clarkeson and her late husband George had one daughter, Heather, who moved to the USA about 50 years ago and lives in Louisiana. She is visiting her mother and other relatives at present.

Mrs Clarkeson also has two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
