This was the scene in the city centre this afternoon as the prospect of watching our Olympic heroes get a well deserved celebration parade failed to spark much interest in Norwich.

Just a handful of people took up the opportunity to watch the London 2012 celebration parade from the big screen outside Chapelfield Shopping Centre.

The screen was erected by Norwich City Council, Chapelfield, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) and the BBC with the intention of showing coverage of big events to people in the city.

And while hundreds turned out for some of the Olympic events during the summer, as this picure shows it isn’t always packed out.

Sheridan Smith, marketing manager at Chapelfield, said: “The people of Norwich and Norfolk have enjoyed weeks of live Olympic and Paralympic coverage on the Big Screen at Chapelfield and there have frequently been large and very enthusiastic crowds.

“Holding the Victory Parade straight after the close of the Paralympics on a Monday when children in the UK have gone back to school was always going to be a challenge. I hope that lots of people from Norwich were able to travel to the capital to cheer on our amazing team.

“I’m also proud that we were able to give those not able to travel the opportunity to watch on the Big Screen, although not many settled down in their seats to watch the whole Parade many did stop to watch for a few minutes during their busy working day.”
