Mark Lewis Francis, who won his gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics said: “I’ve been out here inspiring the next generation, this is to show we were exactly like them and we had a dream too.”

The day saw participants, from years one to six, from ten schools around Norfolk.

The Go run For Fun event saw its 30,000th participant to finish the race at Eaton Park.

The first girl to cross the finish line in the second race was Fern Daly, 10 and a pupil at St Francis of Assisi Catholic School, she said: “I really love running, I think it’s really good because it might inspire people who have never run before.”

Emily White, 10, from Avenue Junior School, said: “It was fun, you can walk, jog and talk to your friends.”

One pupil in a wheelchair was walked round the route by their teacher.

Rocco Rizzo- Waters, 11 and a pupil from St Francis of Assisi, came second in the race, he said: “I’m quite competitive, hopefully running will help me with my football skills as I will be a lot faster.”
