A prominent member of the Norfolk business community, Tony Jubb, who has died suddenly aged 76 in Rabat, was on a walking holiday in Morocco.

He was twice elected president of the City Club, the businessman’s club in Norwich, which had been established in 1897.

Born in London on August 7, 1935, Anthony William Jubb was just six weeks old when his parents moved to Bradford in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

After school, he went to Leeds University and read chemistry. He was later elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

When his brother, Peter, started a company, Diathane, which was then involved in electronics, he was invited to join the family run concern in 1975 and moved from the north of England to Norfolk as it specialised in the manufacture of printed circuit boards.

He became chairman and managing director until about 1990 when the business was taken over.

In the mid-1990s, he became associated with Taxassist Accountants and later became its deputy chairman as the business rapidly expanded into a national and international concern.

A trustee of the City Club, he was first elected president in March 1987 and then for a second term five years later.

Mr Jubb also headed the Pottergate Group for many years, which was involved in commercial, residential property development and management.

His other interest, which has developed more recently, was as the treasurer of the Bure Navigation Conservation Trust as he lived by the river in Horstead, near Norwich.

A keen walker, he had just returned from his annual spring visit to Crete with his wife, Patricia (Trish), where he was able to indulge in his other great enthusiasm, archaeology. He was also a keen geologist and took a great interest in trees.

He leaves three daughters and two grandchildren by his first wife.

He married again in 1997. He is survived by his brother Peter.

A service to mark his life will be held at a date to be announced.
