Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace was re-released in 3D at the weekend.

To celebrate, members of Norwich Star Wars Club – The Heroes and Villains Costume Group descended on the Odeon on Saturday.

The Star Wars enthusiasts dressed as characters including Darth Vadar and Chewbacca. There was also a remote-controlled R2D2.

Group member Richard Walker said: “Star Wars is a cult and people just flock to these things, the films are so well supported.

“We have been going for 12 years and this is our 13th year. We are all going to Orlando in Florida for a big Star Wars convention for the second time this year.”

George Lucas’s The Phantom Menace was originally released in 1999 as the first of a three-part prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy.

All six films are to be released in 3D.

The main picture shows Princess Leia (Lorna Wynne), R2D2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Daniel Thain). Inset, Darth Vader (Peter Bean) meets his match in Natasha Falzon, gallery cinema manager.
