Workers at a Norwich landmark have walked more than half way round the world as part of their commitment to get active ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

About 60 people who work in the organisations and businesses in The Forum have been recording their daily mileage since January.

They have now covered some 14,000 miles between them. The aim was to cover the distance around the world, about 25,000 miles, before the Olympics start – and with one month to go, they are going to make an extra push to clock up more miles in the coming weeks.

Marketing manager Jayne Evans said: “Next week, with the torch relay coming to The Forum, our free Big Dance events and the Lord Mayor’s procession, we’re all going to be running around from dawn to dusk, so we’re bound to clock up plenty of extra miles.

“Even so, with four weeks to go until the Games start, we may have to accept the fact we’ve been a little ambitious. But in true Olympic spirit, it has been the taking part that really counts – and we’re all just a bit fitter.”

The members of staff signed up to the challenge as part of Active Norfolk’s Pledge 2012 initiative. To make your pledge, go to www.pledge2012.com.

  • It would be nice if they did walk half-way round the world , perhaps they could take some of their neighbours from city hall with them.
