Customers at a Spanish restaurant in Norwich got into the party spirit last night by being challenged to take part in a speed eating challenge.
Members of staff at La Tasca in Tombland took on the challenge to raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices by attempting to eat 40 cherry tomatoes in one minute.
The event was to mark the restaurant’s 20th anniversary and to celebrate the famous La Tomatina festival in Spain where people throw tomatoes at each other.
Michelle Langford, general manager at La Tasca, said it was “too messy” to replicate the festival in Norwich, so they decided to invite customers to take part in an eating challenge. She added that they hoped to make the tomato speed eating challenge an annual event to raise money for charity.
Six members of staff attempted the challenge last night. Tilo Hall was crowned the winner after eating 25 tomatoes in a minute.
