A Norwich man who undertook drivers, varied his speed from 50 to 90mph and drove three-abreast along the A11 has been disqualified from driving.
Leigh Jeary, of Manby Road, Heartsease, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on Monday, and today was given a suspended sentence and banned from driving at Norwich Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard how Jeary, 25, had been seen by two witnesses travelling side-by-side with two other cars along the A11 between Wymondham and Attleborough just after 6pm on Saturday, May 14.
A witness statement revealed how a modified red Toyota and green Nissan first passed a man near Wymondham in excess of 90mph, with Jeary’s standard blue Lexus following.
Denis King, prosecuting, said that the vehicles had been constantly changing lanes.
“Travelling side-by-side at stretches of the road and slowing to 50mph, they caused inconvenience to other drivers,” he said.
Mr King said that near Attleborough the cars started weaving back and forwards across the road in a manner expected of Formula 1 cars warming up their tyres. They then drove three abreast.
Photos were also shown to the court of the three.
A further witness statement said that they had driven in the manner described for about 10 miles.
Jeary, 25, had pleaded guilty on Monday but was not represented today.
He said nothing, before chairman of the bench Roger Loy issued him with a suspended 12-week sentence with a condition of 250 hours of unpaid work.
Jeary was disqualified from driving for two years and told that he would have to retake his driving test. He was also made to pay £85 costs.
