Norwich’s colourful troop of GoGoGorillas! are proving a hit in the virtual world as well as on the city’s streets.
Many of the 54 adult apes on display in the trail – which is raising funds for Break and the Born Free Foundation – also have their own Twitter accounts.
Created by enthusiastic fans of the apes, each account has an army of followers eager to hear about the gorilla’s latest escapades.
The @GoGoGorillas account impressively has more than 4,100 followers and there is even a special #gorillahour when people can enjoy tweeting about all things gorilla.
In terms of individual gorilla Twitter accounts, yesterday @EarnestGorilla was leading the troop with 848 followers, meanwhile @_BatGrill was a close second with 613, and @CatchMeWhileYo1 was third with 598.
@FreddieGorilla had 469 followers, @_BlingKong had 463, @PoppyLandHero had 360, and @_OptimusPrimate had 299.
Those with more than 200 followers included @MrCarrow1, @AlanGorilla, @GloriaGorilla, @GonzoGorilla, @WiggoGorilla, @YomanGorilla, @MogoGreenback, @Chromillagogo, and @GoGoGorillaRay.
Other tweeting apes include @Aped_Crusader, @GoGoHoratio, @ButchGorilla and @GoGoIronApe.
And after catching up with all the gorilla gossip online, fans of the artistic apes can enjoy following the GoGoGorillas! trail through Norwich until September 7.
There is also a separate trail of baby gorillas – made by Norfolk schoolchildren – to follow too.
Some recent tweets from @EarnestGorilla include:
