Big-hearted Canaries star Robert Snodgrass has used his footballing contacts to help a young cancer sufferer in his native Scotland – by organising an online charity auction.

The Norwich City player, pictured, was moved into action when he heard about Caoimhe Neeson, a three-year-old with a serious brain tumour.

Her family was told she would have just a 40pc chance of surviving beyond her fifth birthday without specialist treatment, only available in the USA, costing £200,000 – money which her mother Joe-Anne simply did not have.

Snodgrass has spent the past two months calling on his contacts within the game to amass an amazing collection of football memorabilia which is currently up for sale on auction website eBay.

Items for sale include a Celtic top signed by all the club’s players, a jersey worn and autographed by Brazilian legend Kaka, and ex-Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy’s boots. Caoimhe’s family have since won their battle to have the operation paid for, but Snodgrass, whose own daughter Sienna is six, wants to make sure there is enough money so the sick youngster can travel and recover in the best possible environment.

Snodgrass, 25, told the Scottish Sun: “I got a call from my brother Tony a few weeks ago telling me about Caoimhe. My girlfriend used to work with a friend of her mum.

“I was back in Scotland visiting my parents and I read a bit more about the battle she was facing. My heart just melted and I wanted to do everything I could to try and help her.

“I looked at my own little girl Sienna and just imagined what it would be like if she was in the same situation. It would be nice if other people help if they can. There is some great stuff to auction off and hopefully we can raise a good amount of money.”
