Delia was a guest on the BBC One show alongside Avengers Assemble and The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner, Prince of Persia and Clash Of The Titans actress Gemma Arterton, comedian Matt Lucas and singer Rita Ora.

Wives and girlfriends of Norwich City footballers were in the audience to see Delia tell host Graham Norton that she was on a mission to get people cooking again.

She said: “I have spent several years seething, because people don’t know about home cooking anymore. I spent a long time tryingh to teach them how to do home cooking but now it’s all gone to ready meals, supermarkets and, I don’t know, I just feel we’ve got to get back to the kitchen.

“I’m sick of hearing ‘we’re in a recession, we can’t afford anything’ and it’s half the price to cook. So I want to teach people to cook and I’m going to.” She then explained about her online cookery school, saying that would enable her to teach people directly, saying: “I feel what we have forgotten sight of is it is something that has to be taught.”

Delia got a hug from Jeremy Renner, while Gemma Arterton revealed she used to use her Christmas recipe book to cook Christmas dinner.

After some gentle teasing about swimwear modelling Delia did when she worked in a travel agency. Norwich City got a brief mention, with Norton describing Delia as “a football mogul”.

Delia then revealed a number of the players’ wives and girlfriends were in the audience, which prompted Matt Lucas to joke about the activities the Carrow Road footballers would be getting up to while their wives and girlfriends were away.

  • I seem to remember Gemma saying she still used Delia's book, not "used to".

  • Delia Smith has dropped like a stone in my estimation, why on earth would someone want to appear on a show hosted by this talentless creep.
