"I know Jordan will be up there watching and will be over the moon about Steven’s donation. There aren’t really any words to express my gratitude. He’s very kind."

Whittaker, who joined City last summer from Glasgow giants Rangers, held the hand of Jordan Houston when he was a mascot for Scotland’s match against Spain at Hampden Park in 2010.

The Musselburgh youngster died aged just 11 in July 2011 as a result of a tumour wrapped around his brain stem and since then his family have set up a charity in his name to raise awareness and help families with children fighting deadly diseases.

Whittaker, 28, has now donated the strip he wore during that match with Spain, and is also planning to send a Canaries shirt signed by him and his City teammates to be raffled at a fundraising night at Edinburgh Masonic Club this month.

Jordan Houston’s mum, Chloe, spoke to Scottish newspaper the Daily Record about Whittaker’s donations, saying: “We already have Jordan’s strip in a frame. I’m now going to get it framed and have the two strips side by side. It is very special for us because it’s a really good memory of Jordan.

“Steven is also arranging for his teammates at Norwich City to sign a strip to donate to the trust so we can raise funds. It’s brilliant.

“I know Jordan will be up there watching and will be over the moon about Steven’s donation. There aren’t really any words to express my gratitude. He’s very kind.”

  • It is good to see that there is still a human element in the game and reinforces the family values that are still there at Carrow Road - good one Steve and the team. OTBC
