The yellow SOS bus that has become a refuge for clubbers in crisis on Prince of Wales Road is trialling a new location in the city.

Supplying anything from flip flops to first aid, the bus moved to Castle Meadow outside The Open at the weekend.

Jenny Smith, SOS Bus Co-ordinator, said: 'Over the last few months we have found that more and more requests for our help are coming from the Castle Meadow, Tombland area, therefore we are trialling a location back at the top of Prince of Wales Road on Castle Meadow near to our original site.

'Being outside the OPEN Youth Trust (our sister charity) means we can also easily get a power supply, which is needed to operate the SOS Bus, whilst we trial this new location'.

The bus, which is staffed by 50 volunteers, has helped thousands of clubbers since it was established in 2001 following the tragic death of two teenagers in the river.

The initiative aims to relieve pressure on the ambulance service during their busiest hours on Friday and Saturday nights between 9.30pm and 3.30am.

Since November 2008, the SOS Bus has helped over 3,000 people.
