Future stars of the stage will be tapping their way to success after a duo from Norwich became the first in the county to design and write a new course for wannabe dance teachers.

Bryony Moore, of Silver Street, Norwich, and Meg Howard, of Kenninghall, who run Slanteddance, based at The Garage, have written a level 3 dance in education course.

The four-day course, which is unique to Norfolk, will begin in February and will be held at the professional development centre in Woodside Road.

Miss Moore said: 'Meg and I were both frustrated. We realised that some people delivering dance in schools were not qualified, or they didn't have a lot of experience.

'You wouldn't dream of having an unqualified teacher for English or geography or mainstream subjects. Dance needs to be delivered to a high standard.' The pair started Slanteddance in 2009.

'We approached Norfolk County Council and they agreed to be our accreditation centre, so the course is accredited at level 3 through the OCNER (Open College Network Eastern Region).

'The course is unique to Norfolk and the aim is that by 2015 everyone delivering dance in schools will have achieved this qualification as a minimum requirement,' Miss Moore added.

Martin Radmore, lead adviser and county PE adviser at Norfolk County Council said: 'A high quality dance education will provide a range of opportunities for pupils such as performing in public and working with professional dance artists.'
