Craft beer duo and Norfolk brewery join forces to launch celebration of region’s beer
The team behind Norwich’s craft beer festival have joined forces with a south Norfolk brewery to launch a separate celebration of local breweries.
Norwich Craft Beer Week announced on Monday morning that it had teamed up with Ampersand Brew Co, based in Earsham, for the Norwich Beer Mash-Up.
Held on Friday, August 26 to Sunday, August 28, it will precede the city’s craft beer week, which this year runs from August 27 to September 2.
But Craig Cutting, one of the organisers, said the mash-up was a “celebration of really good beer”, and would include keg, cask, bottles and cans.
It will see 10 breweries either based in, or with links to, the region hold stands at the event, serving their own beers and giving visitors a chance to say hello and ask questions.
Mr Cutting, who launched the first Norwich Craft Beer Week with Jake Thorogood last year, said: “We thought the craft beer week went really well and we were happy, but we thought there was something missing.
“We wanted to make it really different to any other festival in the region, by really making it about the breweries.
“The brewers themselves will have a stand, will fill it with as many beers as they can and will sell their own.”
He said they were trying to make the event as “inclusive” as possible, with a mix of styles, flavours and strengths.
While other breweries will be announced soon, so far the line-up includes All Day Brewing, in Salle, Grain, in Harleston, and One Mile End, which is based in London but has roots in Norwich.
“We really hope it will be the start of something that can build and build,” he said, “and appeal to everyone.”
The mash-up will be based at St Laurence’s Church, which is on St Benedict’s Street.
Afternoon session tickets cost £5 and evening session tickets £7. Prices include entry, a limited edition glass and a programme.
