A Norwich man has thanked developers after a member of staff went the extra mile to ensure he could get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend.
Chris Sainty, a software engineer, had been planning to propose to his girlfriend Robyn Edwards when they moved into their brand-new Norwich home.
But he enlisted the help of Jackie Keegan, from Bovis Homes, to ensure everything went to plan.
Mr Sainty said: “We’re not showy people, so I wanted to do something which was quite private. But I wanted it to be meaningful and this was our first home together, so it was a special moment.”
So rather than being there as soon as the couple arrived at their new home in Round House Park, Cringleford, Ms Keegan gave them some time for Mr Edwards to pop the question.
Mr Sainty said: “Initially, I had planned to go into the house beforehand and decorate it, but I didn’t want it to be tacky and thought I would keep it simple.
“I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to ask, but it actually worked out really well.”
While Miss Edwards, a fitness instructor with her own studio, was looking around the kitchen, Mr Edwards dashed upstairs and called for her to come up and look at something. When she arrived, he was down on one knee.
He said: “Robyn was definitely surprised. It was just the reaction I wanted. She burst into tears and said yes, which, I suppose is the aim.
Shortly afterwards, Mrs Keegan, who was eagerly waiting to congratulate the newly-engaged couple, greeted them with a bouquet and gift.
Mr Sainty had already reserved a smaller home on the Round House Park development before meeting Miss Edwards, but when the couple got together they decided to upgrade to a larger house.
Mr Sainty said: “Jackie was great in sorting it all out and making the change. She kept us in the loop throughout.”
The couple, who have been together for a year and a half, are aiming to have a small, intimate wedding later this year.
