Care for Children

Local charity Care for Children is hosting a family fun day at Heigham Park in Norwich.

Founded in 1998 by Robert Glover OBE and his wife Elizabeth Glover, the Norwich-based charity works with governments in Asia to provide homes for orphaned and abandoned children.

The charity’s team of social work experts specialise in training state-run institution staff, empowering them to recruit, assess and train suitable foster families.

The children they help live in China and Thailand. A new project is starting in Vietnam this summer.

The aim of the family fun day is to make people aware of Care for Children.

Isabelle Francis, communications and events officer for the charity said: “We’ll be talking about the charity to people who come to our fun day. We wanted to share our story here in Norfolk as this is where we are based. We’re very well known in China but not many people know about us here. We’d like to give something back to the community.”

The fun day will be this Saturday July 1 at Heigham Park, Norwich, from midday to 4pm.

The event will have everything for the family from face painting to crafts and cake decorating to outdoor games.

Admission is free and donations will be welcome.

Care for Children’s project allows for the children to stay in their own countries and to live with local families.

Training and resources are provided from the HQ in Norwich to families in the countries that are planning on fostering through the scheme.

Figures from January 2016 to December 2016 for the charity show that there has been 62 training workshops delivered across China and Thailand, 625 people attending and recieving core training in family placement and 5,540 children have been placed with families as a result of Care for Children’s training.
