The North Wootton girls, aged 12 and 10, impressed judges at the Open Mic UK auditions in Bedford last Sunday and have made it through to the regional finals.

The sisters, performing as Funky Little Folk, will perform at the live stages of the competition in November to secure a place in the national final at the O2 Arena in London.

Their mum Vicki Boulding said: “They just love to sing and perform. They are always singing and dancing around our home.

“I decided to take them to the auditions in the spare of the moment after being told about the competition. After they performed, they were unsure if they had impressed the judges or got through because there were so many people at the auditions.

“But when they were told they had got through they were in shock at first but really pleased, and they couldn’t wait to tell everybody.

“The ultimate prize for the competition is to sing at the O2 plus the chance to get a recording contract but there are still two stages to get through first.”

The Open Mic UK judges said the sisters’ audition was “one of the best of the day” and praised their “great harmonies and arrangement”.

Ms Boulding continued: “I am very proud of them because they do work really hard on their music.

“They have been singing for quite a few years now. They each started playing piano at the age of five and started playing guitar around seven.

“Both Georgia and Maddi have won the same talent show at South Wootton Junior School and they have performed at the Wootton Picnic in the Park event for the last two years, including this year’s event which celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.”

Chris Grayston, from Open Mic UK, said: “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer with both the ability to deliver a strong live performance but also potential to become a professional recording artist. There is so much talent out there I’m sure we can find that star again.”
