The starting gun is set to be fired for £2.4m of projects aimed at boosting Norfolk’s fishing industry.
Members of North Norfolk District Council’s (NNDC) cabinet have given the thumbs up to a £50,000 interest-free loan to help the North Norfolk Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) scheme get under way.
The cash will be used by the North Norfolk Business Forum, which is acting as programme manager, to provide it with a working cash flow.
The forum will repay the council following the final grant payment it receives from the Marine Management Organisation at the end of the three-year programme.
The FLAG scheme, largely funded by the European Fisheries Fund, will see cash spent on infrastructure, marketing, education and getting EU protection for the Cromer crab, with a longer-term aim of creating a fisheries training school.
It will benefit a 59-mile stretch of Norfolk coastline, from Thornham to Caister-on-Sea, and inshore businesses with links to the trade.
NNDC’s cabinet is recommending to the full council that the loan should be approved.
Supporters of Scottish champions Celtic are in Norwich ahead of the Adam Drury testimonial game tonight.

The 2 million squid we get back from the unelected technocrats of Brussels, is really small fry, compared to the £50 million we give to these euro sharks everyday. News items like this one, is just another red herring... fed to the sheeple, for the desired effect on them of not feeling, well and truly kippered.
