A schoolgirl from north Norfolk has undergone a dramatic makeover in a bid to help the fight against brain tumours.

Fourteen-year-old Ellie Branston-Tilley, of Mill Road, Cromer, had 20 inches (50cms) of hair chopped off for Brain Tumour Charity.

The North Walsham High School pupil has raised nearly £200.

She has also donated her locks to the Princess Trust, which will use her hair to make a wig for a child who has suffered from hair loss due to illness.

Her mother Jodie, 37, said she was proud of her daughter's achievements.

'She decided to do this completely off her own back. For a child of 14 to selflessly do this act of kindness makes me so proud to be her parent.'

Mrs Branston-Tilley added that a close family friend was recovering after having a brain tumour removed nearly a year ago at the age of 17, and that inspired Ellie.
